IIJ Releases IIJ Smart Mobile Manager Trial Service for remote management of the iPad and other advanced mobile devices
TOKYO--November 25, 2010--Internet Initiative Japan, Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the release of the IIJ Smart Mobile Manager Trial Service, which enables clients to remotely manage advanced mobile devices such as the iPad and Android phones, including implementing security measures and initializing the device.
The Smart Mobile Manager was developed for clients using the iPad and other advanced mobile devices for business applications, and among other things, it enables them to remotely lock a device or wipe it (delete all data), restrict certain functions, and manage applications settings. The terminals being managed only need to be registered via a dedicated Web interface to enable the client to manage the security features via SaaS and to easily manage other features without special equipment.
Advanced mobile devices are compact, and thus highly mobile, but at the same time, they are easy to steal or lose, which makes them a high risk information leaks. Users can also easily install applications, making it necessary to implement security policies in order to restrict applications to those required for work. These and many other issues continue to plague serious users of advanced mobile terminals as business tools.
Through IIJ Smart Mobile Manager, Service IIJ seeks to resolve many of these issues for our clients and support the smooth implementation of advanced mobile devices in other companies.
This trial release has a limited number of functions, while the full-featured version is scheduled to be released in April 2011, with camera and GPS controls, application start-up controls, password requirement controls, and many other administration functions.
