TOKYO--July 13, 2010--Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the addition of the CWE-640J module--an M2M communications module produced by Korea's C-motech Co., Ltd. that is compatible with the IIJ Mobile Service/Type D high-speed data communications service--as well as IIJ Mobile Service for the CWE-640J. The CWE-640J is scheduled for release in autumn 2010 and will be on display ahead of the release date at the Tokyo Big Sight's Expo Comm Wireless Japan 2010 starting on July 14, 2010.
EXPO COMM WIRELESS JAPAN 2010

Venue Tokyo Big Sight, East Hall 1&2/Conference Tower
Exhibition booth C-320
Exhibition content M2M communications module (CWE-640J),
IIJ Mobile terminals, Enterprise PDA, etc.

M2M is a communications configuration that allows automated information exchange between machines, and M2M communications modules are being included in many devices today, such as vending machines, monitoring systems, and measurement devices and other equipment that use sensors. As M2M can be used in various ways, future demand is expected to grow quickly.

IIJ entered the M2M market in March 2009 with its first M2M module, the DTM-620WK (produced by Korea's AnyDATA Co., Ltd.), which was the module of choice for IIJ Mobile Service/Type D. IIJ Group's Taihei Computer Co., Ltd., has a long track-record with POCKETTA, a digital signage terminal, and the Pit business-use PDA developed by Computer Systems Engineering Co., Ltd., which contain the DTM-620WK with the IIJ Mobile communications service SIM card. In addition, the DTM-620WK with the IIJ Mobile communications service are used in entertainment devices and other machines as an M2M connection.

The new CWE-640J is not only compatible with IIJ Mobile Service/Type D, but it is less expensive and easier-to-use, so it has been added to the line-up in the hope of meeting a broader range of customer needs and expanding the M2M businesses that use IIJ Mobile Service.

Highlights of the new module

IIJ Mobile Service/Type D Compatible

The module is compatible with IIJ Mobile Service/Type D, which uses the NTT DoCoMo FOMAR network. This network covers 100% of the nation and makes it easy to use in any location or region.

Transmission speeds

The downlink speed is 384 kbps, and the upload speed is 384 kbps, an improvement of the uplink speed over previous modules.

Internal SIM card slot

A SIM card slot is provided on the module itself. This makes it unnecessary to provide a separate SIM card slot on the substrate, which means simpler design.

Securing of an application sector in the firmware

An application sector has been created in the firmware of the communications module. This can be used for simple applications, and because the applications are using the module's CPU, a more efficient substrate design can be used.

Wide range of operational temperatures

This module can be operated in a wide range of temperatures, from -20℃ to 70℃.

In the development of the CWE-640J, C-motech produced the module, while Panasonic Telecom Co, Ltd. performed the equipment evaluation and testing to complete NTT DoCoMo's interoperability tests as a terminal for use with IIJ Mobile Service. The CWE-640J will be provided through the joint efforts of IIJ, C-motech, and Panasonic Telecom.

In addition to M2M-compatible W-CDMA modules, IIJ provide all types of terminals with 3.5G mobile communications capabilities built in, such as business-use PDAs and mobile-capable routers, and combining these terminals with mobile data communications and a cloud environment, we create an optimum M2M integrated platform. Thus we provide customers with a one-stop M2M communications environment optimized for their needs.

Along with this release, IIJ is also proud to announce the start of the IIJ Mobile M2M Partner Program for service operators considering M2M networks using IIJ Mobile Service.
