IIJ Partners with EMC Japan to Drive Cloud Business
TOKYO—July 19, 2012—Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the date of conclusion of the Service Provider Ordering Agreement to partner with EMC Japan K.K. (EMC Japan) which expands IIJ's cloud business operations as the first gold level Japanese partner in the EMC Velocity Service Provider Program.
Through this partnership, EMC storage technology will be associated with IIJ's cloud service, IIJ GIO Service, to create new solutions and participate in joint marketing activities, which will support the introduction of cloud services to the existing corporate client's of both companies as well as develop new clients. The new partnership has the following objectives:
1. Assist EMC Japan's existing clients in building a hybrid cloud (*1) using IIJ GIO
2. Develop and provide business continuity plan (BCP) solutions using EMC storage products and IIJ GIO
3. Develop new markets through joint sales activities, marketing campaigns, and other marketing activities
Recently, the use of cloud services as a platform for corporate information systems is increasing, and IIJ GIO has already been adopted in more than 1,100 systems. In many of these cases, clients have employed IIJ GIO to build a public cloud as well as a private cloud for building internal systems. To meet this demand for private cloud services, IIJ is planning an August release of the IIJ GIO Virtual Platform VW Series, which integrates the IIJ GIO cloud service with EMC storage products and VMware—leader in the virtualization technology used in corporate information systems. In contrast with traditional cloud services, the IIJ GIO Virtual Platform VW Series will enable clients to freely design and construct an OS and applications on a virtualized platform, making it easy to build a cloud-based system that meets their operation environment and other conditions, i.e. a customized private cloud on demand.
With this new partnership EMC Japan client can use this service as a backup to existing systems as part of their BCP, creating a hybrid cloud that connects their on-premise system environment with the IIJ GIO environment.
(*1) Hybrid cloud: a system that combines a private cloud with a public cloud. By using the unique features of both the on-premise system and the cloud system, users can maximize cost benefits and flexibility.
