IIJ Opens the Mitaka Data Center
TOKYO-September 16, 2011-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that IIJ's new "Mitaka Data Center" will be operational on October 1, 2011.
The Mitaka Data Center is IIJ's seventh data center in Tokyo.
Recently, many client's have developed a need for dedicated racks to house servers and network equipments in order to connect servers provided as part of IIJ's cloud service, IIJ GIO, and the client's network. To meet this demand, we have established the Mitaka Data Center, which is accessible from central Tokyo, and to service IIJ GIO customers by providing low-cost dedicated rack space and Internet connections. This data center delivers more electric power per rack than conventional data center buildings, which enables each rack to carry almost double the equipment load.
In April 2011, IIJ established the Matsue Data Center Park using externally cooled containers to house IIJ GIO equipment, and we have continued to construct data centers optimized for the cloud era. The need for disaster-resistant backup sites with uninterruptible power supplies for collocation has also grown, and in response IIJ has developed conventional data centers in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area and the Kansai area. IIJ will continue to develop conventional data center buildings and data center container parks for IIJ GIO and collocation services to provide the clients with the services that they need.
