IIJ Launches IIJ Smart POS Service
TOKYO-May 28, 2012-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the July 1, 2012, release of the IIJ Smart POS Service, a high-performance, low-cost, cloud-based point-of-sale system that uses the iPad.
The IIJ Smart POS Service is a total solution for distribution companies and retailers that enables them to perform checkout functions, sales management, inventory management, and other store management functions, as well as membership management, sales promotion, and other customer management functions, all from the POS. This advanced POS system is easy to build, does not require any server equipment on the client's premises, and costs only JPY 20,000 per month per terminal.
A rich array of management features and sales promotion features
Customers can use a Web interface to monitor sales at all locations, see inventory levels in real time, perform various analyses—such as identifying big sellers—and access administrative functions such as shipping/receiving status, inventory counts, and many more. There are also functions for creating and analyzing statistics based on member information, issuing online coupons, distributing ezines, and other sales-promotion programs. The content management system (CMS) can be used to easily build Web sites for mobile devices and provide store information, membership point information, and other useful services.
Uses the iPad to provide a compact, easy-to-use POS terminal
This service provides an Apple iPad as the POS terminal. Compared the traditional POS terminal it is superior in both design and function, which makes it very easy get up and running. The service also provides pre-tested barcode scanner, cash drawer, receipt printer and other peripherals. Using IIJ’s proprietary terminal management system, each terminal regularly receives the latest applications. In the event that the terminal is stolen, data can be deleted remotely and use of the terminal restricted.
Low-cost service model means giant cost decreases
The POS functions cost JPY 20,000 per month (details provided separately). The server that collects and analyzes the POS data is located in the IIJ data center, which is monitored 24/7 by IIJ engineers, so changing the POS terminal saves space within the store and reduces costs by saving on electricity and system administrators. If the client needs to temporarily add one more terminal during peak periods or special events, there is a Short-term Rental Pack, that can be used for up to one month.
IIJ is promoting the migration of distribution systems to the cloud, and will continue to develop a variety of cloud services to facilitate a smooth transition to cloud computing.
