IIJ Introduces New Products to the IIJ SSL Certificate Management Service
TOKYO--April 12, 2007--Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the addition of three additional server certificates to the IIJ SSL Certificate Management Service, a proxy registration service that performs all of the actions necessary to acquiring and using SSL server certificates.
The IIJ SSL Certificate Management Service will create the CSR (*1) necessary to acquire certificates and submit the application to the certificate issuing authority on behalf of the customer. When used in conjunction with an IIJ hosting service (*2), the certificate can also be installed on the server. This greatly reduces the customer's overhead associated with the acquisition and maintenance of server certificates.
The additional certificates are VeriSign Japan K.K.'s Secure Site with EV and Secure Site Pro with EV, and GlobalSign K.K.'s DomainSSL. Secure Site with EV and Secure Site Pro with EV provide even stronger protection than previous certificates. When a site with Secure Site with EV or Secure Site Pro with EV is accessed, the browser's address bar changes to green, giving the user a visual cue that the site is valid. Meanwhile, the DomainSSL has a simpler inspection process than earlier certificates, enabling the quick introduction of certificates at a reasonable price.
In recent years, the demand for server certificates has grown as an effective method for stopping the growing incidents of phishing and other types of fraud. With the addition of these three server certificates, IIJ can meet the needs of a wider range of customers, from businesses that want to acquire server certificates more easily, to those who want to bolster their security through the acquisition of more reliable server certificates.
IIJ is also working to add a server certificate acquisition service to IIJ's cloud service IIJ GIO, and otherwise expand the use of certificates. IIJ will continue to offer services to our customer's that make it easier to build and maintain a secure network environment.
(*1) Abbreviation for Certificate Signing Request. A request for a certificate signature, which is necessary for issuing an SSL server certificate. This includes information about the organization operating the website, such as the organization's name, their key, and other information used in data encryption.
(*2) IIJ Document Exchange Service and IIJ Web High Grade Service.
