IIJ Group Opens the Kozu Data Center
TOKYO-June 30, 2011-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that IIJ Group's new Kozu Data Center will be operational on July 1, 2011.
In recent years, the demand for urban data centers has increased in the greater Osaka-Kobe metropolitan area as well as in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area. The drive to build more backup data centers in the Osaka area has become an integral part of disaster recovery plans and business continuity plans since the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the new Kozu Data Center was constructed to meet this need.
The Kozu Data Center is the second data center to service the growing demand within Osaka City, joining the Shinsaibashi Data Center, which was opened in 2008. The center is providing a broad list of services in addition to collocation, such as equipment management and monitoring services. Data center users can take advantage of the infrastructure and a wide range of IIJ Group services to build and manage networks systems as a total network solution. The quake-absorbing structure of the building makes it earthquake resistant, and it can be used simply to outsource these services or as part of a disaster recovery plan.
In April 2011 IIJ developed a new type of data center using containers at its Matsue Data Center Park. IIJ will build container data centers that integrate facilities with IT equipment, and urban data centers that provide collocation and management services, distributing these over the IIJ backbone, and developing solutions and services around cloud services.
