TOKYO--December 1, 2009--Internet Initiative Japan Inc.(IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774) and First Riding Technology Inc.,(FRT) built and have been operating a remote backup site and data backup network for CTI Engineering Co., Ltd. since May 2009.

IIJ and FRT have now built a backup site for intermediate deliverables at the FRT data center in Okinawa. Intermediate deliverables are the data created in the process of producing designs and survey reports that are delivered as finished products to the customer. Up till now, intermediate deliverables were backed up to the file servers at each location or, in some cases, stored on the computers of individuals, and were at risk of being lost in the event of a disaster or computer failure. CTI has been investigating remote back up solutions for its intermediate deliverables and other flow data as part of its business continuation plan, and after surveying several potential sites, they finally selected the IIJ-FRT data center in Okinawa.

Okinawa Prefecture has a seismic factor of 0.7 and has the lowest risk of earthquake in Japan, which has made it a popular location in recent years for building backup sites. FRT's Okinawa data center is more than 1,600 kilometers from CTI's headquarters in Tokyo, and in addition to the low probability of simultaneous natural disasters at both locations, the center has access to power from two different substations and has ISO27001 certification, making it an ideal location in terms of facilities and operations. CTI recognized the advantages of this location and the facilities and selected IIJ and FRT for their technological strength in equipment maintenance at remote locations as well as their operational expertise.

In addition to building remote backup sites, IIJ built a Layer2 network to connect the backup site with all remote locations. Using the IIJ SMF sx Service, which employs IIJ's proprietary centralized network management system SMF, IIJ built a virtual Ethernet service over the Internet that creates a low-cost data backup environment for each location, and this supports a company-wide business continuation plan in the event of natural disaster or system failure.

IIJ and FRT will use this experience with CTI to deliver the best business continuation plan solutions to their customers.
