IIJ Adds IPv6 Option to the IIJ Contents Delivery Service

TOKYO--26 November, 2009--Internet Initiative Japan, Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the immediate release of the new IPv6 option to the IIJ Contents Delivery Service, a high-quality stable distribution platform.

The IIJ Contents Delivery Service uses a high-volume distribution platform connected directly to IIJ's high-speed backbone to distribute the customer's content. This system provides an ideal environment for high-traffic websites, large file distribution, streaming video distribution, and similar broadband content, and even when traffic volumes suddenly spike, the customer's content can be distributed stably and at the highest quality without the need to purchase additional equipment.

Up until now, the IIJ Contents Delivery Service has only supported IPv4. With the addition of this new feature, the customers can easily start high-volume video streaming using both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols on the VoD menu for on-demand video distribution. Under the Web content cache menu, which is used for delivering customer Web content from IIJ servers, existing Web content that has been created in an IPv4 environment can easily be converted to IPv6, without the need for any change to the customer's network environment.

IPv4 address will continue to be assigned for some years to come, but they are expected to become gradually scarcer, making IPv6 capable networks an urgent matter for not only business users but also consumer users. Starting in 2009, IIJ is aggressively implementing IPv6 capabilities throughout its services and network equipment. Since it appears that, in the future, demand for distribution using IPv6 will increase in the sphere of content delivery as well, IIJ will continue to actively provide a contents delivery environment that makes it easier for customers to make the transition to IPv6.
