AEON to Carry IIJmio High-Speed Mobile/D Service "Light Start Plan"
TOKYO-November 15, 2012-AEON Retail Co., Ltd.; AEON KYUSHU Co., Ltd.; and Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), today announced the release of the new Light Start Plan on the IIJmio High-speed Mobile/D Service—an LTE/3G compatible data communications service for individual users—which will be sold at 204 AEON supermarket chain stores on Japan's main island of Honshu as well as in Shikoku, and Kyushu starting on December 1, 2012.
The Light Start Plan provides a high-speed mobile data communications service that uses the NTT DOCOMO's LTE/3G network, and at JPY 1,974 per month, users get up to 1 GB of data transfers at a maximum down-link speed of 75 Mbps and a maximum up-link speed of 25 Mbps (when the 1 GB per month limit is exceeded, the speeds are reduced to 128 kbps for both up and down links.)
At the same time that this plan is introduced, the IIJmio Welcome Pack for AEON—a SIM package that until now has only been available at 200 AEON supermarket chain stores in the Honshu and Shikoku areas—will go on sale in Kyushu, increasing the number of AEON stores in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu that carry this service to 204.
In addition, the AEON X IIJmio New Service Release Campaign will be launched to promote the new fee plan, and anyone buying the IIJmio Welcome Pack for AEON between November 16, 2012, and November 30, 2012, will receive 1,000 WAON points, redeemable electronic money good at any AEON affiliated store nationwide. (Product purchase required to participate. Users must select fee plan on IIJmio website. Existing fee plans available from November 16, new Light Start Plan available from December 1. Campaign rewards apply to all plans.)
The special feature of this fee plan is that it provides high-speed data communications compatible with LTE/3G data communications to users who keep their usage down to under 1 GB for JPY 1,974 per month, the least expensive service on the market. (According to IIJ research as of October 2012.) AEON Retail and IIJ will jointly market the plan, which is designed to meet the demand for high-speed, low-cost data communications primarily for smartphone users. AEON and IIJ will continue to collaborate in the mobile communications field to provide affordable services to their customers.
